Corporate culture encompasses elements that are essential to job satisfaction, such as work-life balance, career development plans for internal promotion, salary progression policies, team-building strategies, CSR and all those principles that define the organisation beyond its business plan and productivity figures.

Why is it important to focus on team-building within a company?

The field of human resources has evolved considerably over recent decades, and this change has increasingly focused on employee satisfaction, motivation, building good relationships and a proactive approach; ultimately leading to improved productivity.

However, for a company to achieve its objectives within a reasonable timeframe, it is important that the whole team pulls in the same direction, in a coordinated manner and without any collateral obstacles to disrupt progress; such as conflicts that may arise between employees due to a lack of empathy, friendliness or assertiveness, unfair competition or a lack of emotional intelligence. This is where team-building tactics and all the benefits mentioned above come into play.

5 Examples of team-building activities

If you want to start organising team-building activities at your company, it’s best to first carefully analyse your staff’s profiles, their starting points, the prevailing working atmosphere within the company and the company’s needs. The aim is to tailor each activity as much as possible, but to give you an idea of where to start, here are some examples of team-building activities.

Co-operative games: outdoor or indoor activities that require team members to work together to overcome challenges and solve problems, such as orienteering tasks, puzzles or building structures.

Trust-building exercises: games designed to build trust and camaraderie amongst team members, such as trust exercises in pairs, where one person must guide the other whilst blindfolded.

Conflict resolution workshops: these are sessions led by facilitators in which internal problems and disagreements are addressed and resolved, fostering constructive communication and the search for joint solutions.

Creative activities: These are often workshops in painting, sculpture, music or theatre, where team members work together to create an artistic piece or performance, fostering creativity and collaboration.

Sporting challenges: sporting competitions or relay races where teamwork is essential to success, promoting cooperation, motivation and pushing one’s limits.

Now that you know what team building is and all the benefits it brings to a company, what are you waiting for?
