Introduction

In the field of healthcare, it is essential to understand the various aspects of healthcare provision for mass casualty incidents and disasters, within the professional field of emergency medical services. This course therefore aims to provide the necessary knowledge to to describe semi-automatic external defibrillators (SAEDs), its components and how it works, as well as for administer defibrillation in accordance with the protocol and, where appropriate, to assist with the initial care for a person suffering from a cardiac arrest (CA).

Objectives

  • Understanding the chain of survival.

  • Prioritise early defibrillation.

  • Be proficient in basic CPR.

  • Use the mask for ventilation.

  • Administer life-saving techniques.

  • Planning a response to cardiac arrest.
