Introduction

In the field of Graphic Arts, it is necessary to understand the different fields of the Engraving and Printing Techniques, within the professional field Artistic activities and graphic techniques. So, with this training, Techniques for Presenting Prints and the Appraisal of Original Graphic Works, The aim is to provide the knowledge required to identify and monitor post-printing treatments and to assess the original graphic work.

This course prepares you to become a expert in the authentication and presentation of graphic works originals, which can be valuable in the field of art valuation, museums, art galleries, auction houses and private collections.

Objectives

  • Assess the behaviour and the effectiveness of treatments subsequent provisions applicable to Original Graphic Works.

  • Define the Technical aspects of containers featuring original artwork, applying criteria for adaptation to the aesthetic, conceptual, formal and protective characteristics set out in a project.

  • Organise and prepare the space for the storage of an edition of an Original Graphic Work which will ensure it is preserved in the best possible condition.

  • Apply established procedures for signing graphic works based on international standards, regarding numbering, classification and registration.

  • Carry out the visual analysis of prints, identifying the techniques and processes used in the production of *Obra Gráfica* and included in the historiographical catalogue entry

  • Assess the condition of the prints identifying any damage that may have occurred and quantifying the financial loss.

    The need for a container for the original artwork.
    Different types of containers: sleeves, boxes, frames, folders, cases, wrappers.
    The materials used to construct a graphic art display stand: wood, cardboard, adhesives, and others.
    Material compatibility: physical and chemical changes.
    Treatments and environmental conditions.
    Quality control.

TEACHING UNIT 3. LIGHTING IN GRAPHIC ART

    The effects of light in graphic art.
    Main sources of light for exhibiting graphic art.
    Light measurement.
    Current regulations governing the use of lighting in museums
    Types of glass.
    Assembly diagrams.

TEACHING UNIT 4. CONSERVATION OF ORIGINAL GRAPHIC WORKS

    General principles of preservation and conservation of original graphic works
    Preservation of the original artwork.
    Storage and preservation facilities.
    Conditions, organisation and suitable furnishings for the original graphic work.
